Week 6 Test Week
**Note: the purpose of test week is to 1) see where I am strength wise (though I already have a good idea and 2) to handle weights heavier than I intend to handle in the contest. So

Saturday GPP
Scap Pushups- 2x20
External rotation stretching
Side lying external rotation- 20x6, 20x8
Infraspinatus activation
Turkish Getups- 20 pounds for 10 minutes maintaining 105-130 bpm
Stretching / foam roll / theracane

Monday SBB
Suit Squat (#9) +wraps- 85-95%, 5-6 NL
855x1 @8 4-5 hi
905x1 @8 2-3 hi. Maybe couldve dipped it
955x1 @9 still high. The suit was binding up in the bottom (43m)

Raw Bench- 85-95%, 5-6 NL
465x1 @8.5 felt heavy, but moved well
495x1 @8.5 owned it!
525x1 @9
495x1 @8 paused (26m)

3Board (thumb from smooth) +180pp- x6, 20-24 NL
285x6 @8
305x6 @8.5
325x6 @9 (15m)

Total Training Time: 176min

Obviously a good day. The 955 was fun it moved well. It was also clearly high, but I blame that on the suit binding up. Im not too worried about it because I know which suit to wear in the meet now. The thing is my legs have grown so the suits that used to be just right out of the package are a little snug.
The raw benching was good especially the paused 495. More on this later

Tuesday DBS
Deadlift w/belt- 85-95%, 5-6 NL
725x1 @8
765x1 @8.5
805x1 @9 (23m)

Bench +180pp +90c- 70-80%, 14-18 NL
265x3 @8
285x3 @8.5
300x2 @9
300x2 @8.5
300x2 @8.5
275x2 @8 (28m)

SSB Wide Squat- x6, 20-24 NL
385x6 @8
425x6 @8
455x6 @9 (21m)

Total Training Time: 124min

Overall, this was a good session. It was the day after the squat and benches (Monday), so I had some fatigue to deal with. Moreso, I just had a slight lack of focus.
Even so, I pulled 805x1 @9 And I feel like at that point in time, I was legitimately good for 845. Itd have been a big job, but I wouldve come through.
The bench work was heavier than it should have been, but thats due to fatigue from yesterday.

Thursday BDB
Shirt Bench (#6)- 85-95%, 5-6 NL
635x1 @8
675x1 @8.5
715x1 @9
725x1 @9 (38m)

Deadlift +90c- 70-80%, 14-18 NL
535x3 @8
585x3 @8
615x5 @9.5 (20m)

Total Training Time: 128min

The benching took forever because I had to adjust the swings to get them right. My mistake should have been done before. Still not a big deal, though
I went to 715 and blasted it. I intended to stop there, but it was so easy, I wanted to try 725 to see what it felt like. It actually felt pretty good. The 725 was a bit of a sloppier lift, but because of the intent of Test Week, Im not complaining.
Deadlifts went pretty good. I ran out of time, so I just did a burnout set with 80%. It definitely validates my RPE chart. Thats what I figured I could do with 80%.

So Ive still got Fridays session to go, but its scheduled to be no heavier than 80%. So far this week Ive done a 955x1 @9, 725x1 @9, 805x1 @9. Due to the performance of these lifts, I dont expect or plan for those numbers at the meet, but its cool to know that theyre close.

Mike i'm a little confused, why dont you plan to try 955, 725 and 805 or more at the meet if you know the strength is there? Dont you want to go balls out on 3rd attempts at the meet?

I'll exceed the 805 deadlift, but the reason I don't plan on the others is kind of complex. Bear with me here...

Obviously, these lifts weren't performed to competition standard. As I said, the purpose of the test week in my specific setup is to provide loading beyond what I plan on doing at the meet (in this circumstance at least). The gear I'll be wearing day-of-show will also be different.

Combine that with the goals I have for the meet (don't want to tip my hand just yet) and I come up with my targets for the meet. In this case, due to my goals, my target weights can be fairly conservative. At Worlds, my priorities are 1) win, 2) achieve my goal total. I'll try for some ridiculous weights at the Arnold.

Got ya makes sense. I've never competed in a worlds or nationals even so i'm always competing against myself so i go for a small PR on my second attempt then go balls out if my second was easy. Plus i'm not at the level to win a national or world event either so once again only competing against myself most of the time. But your logic makes sense, i was just curious. Thanks Mike.

Best wishes to you Mike. You have the respect and support from lifters all over the world! We are all pulling for you (and it might take a few of us to equal your DL) and hope to see you WIN - along with hitting lifts you will be happy with. God bless.

Friday SBD
Squat +90c- 70-80%, 14-18 NL
485x3 @8
505x3 @8
555x2x4 @8 (31m)

Ply Press- 70-80%, 14-18 NL
365x3 @7
395x3 @7
420x2x4 @8 (25m)

Total Training Time: 86min

Not bad today. But I just wasnt motivated. I had accomplished everything else this week and I didnt see what more this could add, so I did the best I could muster and then called it a day when I ran out of time. My lack of motivation was partially because of the priorly mentioned reasons, but I feel it was also nutritionally caused. I had eaten nothing but junk all day and it showed.
In other news, my raw squat form is getting better and better.

hi mike ive been reading your log  cause i was thinking about buying your book. i just dont understand how you dont over train training like that. i would rip a muscle doing that, but then again i am a raw lifter, ive never used anything more than  a belt and knee wraps  so i guess the taining would be different. i guess my question is im a squat and bench 2 times and deadlift 1 a week guy is your book good for me as a competitive raw lifter. my lifts are     s 470 b 380 dL 455 @198 im 23 years old now but those records are from 4 years ago i had a injury and im coming back now.  i never got hurt in a competition only in training.do you think your book will help.
