Geared Squatting Grief

Hi all,

After any advice I can get on this. I'm completely new to suits, had a couple of goes before but only started trying to train in it properly yesterday. Anyway, background info, I'm around 80k, raw squat max is 175k. Yesterday I got it the suit (Centrurion NGX+) and started trying to work in it to get to depth. Got up to 180k and still couldn't make it with 2 reps, pushing down with all my might and even took out blood vessells in my face from the pressure but wasn't getting there. Anyway, then something strange happened, loaded up 185k, 1st rep same story, 2nd rep I was told by the spotter I just about got to parallel, problem is as I got there it was like I had ZERO strength/support and couldn't even hold the weight up so the spotter had to catch me....this was quite a nasty feeling but I figured maybe I just lost balance. Dropped it back to 180k and repeated, exactly the same thing happened again, right around parallel everything just went and I had nothing.

Any advice on this? I'm assuming its because either I don't know how to use the suit or because my body just had enough of this sort of thing but I don't really know. Its a very uncomfortable situation to find yourself in either way!

Hi Mark
I know the exact same thing happens to me if I relax my body when trying to break depth.

I feel your pain

I really don't know what the problem is, but if it was me, I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens a few times in a row. Especially since you don't have a meet coming up.

It will suck for awhile getting used to a new suit ESPECIALLY if you are new to gear.  Trust me, you will think the suit is hurting you and making you weaker for awhile before all the sublties get worked out. Just stick with it. You'll be fine.

Sounds like you are relaxing at the bottom. The key is to push your hips back as hard as possible. Pretend there is a chair 3 feet behind you and you are trying to sit in it.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. Next time I get into my battle gear I've got a few things I'll be trying.
