Do they ever tell you at meets when you hit parallel?

I was just wondering from some of you guys that have done meets. Do the judges ever tell you or signal you when you have reached parallel? This could really help a lot. If not, wow must be so hard to guess depth. It is  probably different for every judge. Sometimes in your favor , probably most times not in your favor Im guessing. I was just wondering if you guys had any meet experiences about squatting and depth(reaching parallel). So I can learn from you. Thanks and peace, Mike Gagne

no why should they, the front judge cant really tell if you have hit depth, you have 2 sides who might have depth as a different opinion as each other.

I have a training partner tell me to come up when I hit depth in comp though

Mike, have someone who knows what proper legal depth is (when the hip joint breaks below the top of the knee or goes below the imaginary line splitting the middle of the thigh) and tape that session.   You'll then know what the proper depth looks like.  Now tape your training sessions after that and gauge where you're at.  After awhile, when you're consistently hitting the proper depth, you'll no longer need to video tape it; you'll know where to go.

Having a judge tell you when you've hit proper depth would be difficult, due to the varying degrees of invididual speed; those who have a rebound technique, etc.  The onus is on the lifter to hit the proper depth.

Mike,

Any relation to Vicky?  I competed at a few meets with her in CA, back in the early 80's.

It would also be very helpful for me. In a way I always go to deep. I do more like an Ass To the Grass squat (a little less deep honestly). Even if I think I just hit parallel, I'm still way below.

Maybe I need to practice on a box with suit and wraps. On the other hand, it feels very comfortable to squat to that depth, but I lose lots of kilos I think. Or not? Would I squat less if I go to competition depth instead of doing my own thing?
