Snatch Grip DL... That's a variation I really didn't expect from you. I've done them before (need to get back to them). Did you have a particular reason for selecting these or was it an interesting sounding GPP exercise?

We needed some extra loading in the deadlift this week to reach the parameters that we outlined for my training and the snatch grip dealift really targets the lower back. Rather than do more regular deadlifts, deadlifts to knees, or deadlifts from pins/blocks we decided to add in the snatch grip deadlift this week.

And just to be especially clear, what was the reasoning for not wanting to do more regular deadlifts? Boredom? Something else?

The law of diminishing returns as it applies to the deadlift-in relation to overall lower body loading and the squat in particular. More sumo deadlifts would have *perhaps* produced too much lower body stress to recover from in going into week 4 and so we wanted a way to get in more work for the lower back but one that would allow for easier recovery. A partial movement fits this bill (from pins) and since it was the snatch grip with hooks the CNS stimulation was less than it would have been with a heavier weight that was actually in my hands. As it were, I had already done the highest deadlift volume in this week 3 (107 reps at 70% intensity) so that is why we decided to top it off with the snatch grip deadlift from pins. It could have just as easily been a conventional deadlift from pins but I like the hooks for the snatch grip and so this is where personal preference and favoring one exercise over another (experience) comes into play in the programming.
