Thanks.

Briefly:

DIagnosis confirmed by several radioligists & X-rays as being in the advanced stage in the thoracic region.

I've tried just about every kind of stretching known to man, including the bands, Iyengar yoga (one on one with the best trainer in the region), in every way, and while it probably helps a bit, there's some muscles that I just can't stretch - example, the spinal erectors. Since the ligaments are fused, I have no motion there. So self-stretching is impossible.

Oh, and DISH is not a form of arthritis. Arthritis hits the joints; this hits the connective tissue. The joints themselves might be fine, or they may additionally be arthritic. I know the arthritis society website takes credit that it's arthritis, but it's really not.

Sounds like you probably know more about what you're dealing with than anyone else. I will definately talk to someone more knowledgeable than me to get their advice. I'm guessing that you've tried tried addressing it with nutrition/supplementation as well?

EDIT:

I've found some interesting stuff on MEDLINE as well as some other medical journals. If you want I can send you the articles, but they might be old news to you. I haven't come across anything yet that would be good at-home treatment.

Benching felt like a million pounds today, but after doing 15-20 warm up sets, things started clicking like they always do. It probably had something to do with doing prowler "conditioning" with Mike yesterday. FML.

It was a good day today. As bad as things went last week I was just hoping to hit something decent to build a little confidence going into the meet, but I felt pretty good and hit a nice PR, with probably 15-20lbs left in the tank. Feeling good about all 3 lifts right now. Body weight is somewhere between 197 and 201 depending on which scale I believe. Getting better 1 day at a time.

Back felt tight today. Still a little beat up from pulling on Sunday. Squatting didn't go as well as I would have liked, but it won't be a problem. Feeling good and getting ready.

Pulls all felt fast and smooth today. Everything is pretty much locked in at this point. I might do some easy squatting on Wednesday, but other than that, I'm on cruise control. bw was 200 this morning, so dropping 2 pounds in a week should be cake. Ready to roll.

2009 Battle of the Great Lakes Powerlifting Meet

YouTube - Meet Video

Weighed in at 195.5. Competed raw at 198.

Squat.
424 - no good (depth)
446 - no good (foot moved)
468 - good lift!

Bench.
292 - good lift
314 - good lift
325 - no lift

Deadlift.
496 - good lift
529 - good lift
562 - no lift (so close)

Total - 1312 (5/9)

What a day. A big thanks goes out to Dan for helping me out, putting my attempts in, and taping my lifts. It certainly wasn't the kind of day I was hoping for, but sometimes thats just the way it goes. I think I weighed less at this meet than the one in November and I put 50+ pounds on my total, so it wasn't all bad. Still... the squat was almost a disaster. I still can't believe I got called for depth on my first attempt. The USAPL needs to ammend their rules to say "must be CLEARLY below parallel" because if you are even close, prepare for the red lights. Still, each of the attempts felt easy. 468 was a conservative move just to stay in the meet. It was also probably the deepest squat of my life. I brought my stance waaaaay in and just went as low as I could go so as not to leave any doubt. The bench was.... interesting. They jacked up my rack height for my opener, so there's no video of the 292, but it went up fast. 314 was a real grinder, and it felt like they kept me down there waiting for the press command forever, until I went for 325 and got the longest pause of my life. Seriously. I was not happy about this at all considering how well my training had gone, but I guess I just have to start doing some 3ct pause benches. As for the deadlift, things almost went perfect. 496 was fast and easy. 529 slowed a bit at the top, but still moved better than it ever has. 562 was so close. I thought for sure I was going to nail it. There was a bit of a confusion before my last attempt as someone else thought they were up when it was my turn, so I lost my concentration for a bit which may have thrown things off. Overall, it was a well run meet, with almost 150 lifters competing. I didn't stick around for the awards, but I think I got 2nd out of 8 or 9 people. I'd say with the way things worked out, my motivation is probably higher than its ever been. I know I can do better than this, and plan to prove it in the near future. Thanks to everyone for all the support.

225 x 3 x 6 @ 7-8

Flat Back Floor Press (3ct).

Incline Bench w/ fat bar (3ct).
2 warm up sets.
225 x 3 x 6 @ 8-9

Just trying out some new things and getting some blood flowing. All the pressing was done with a 3 count pause, and probably will continue this way in the future if my shoulders can take it. Next meet looks like the Pete Lanzi at the end of June, which would give me 13 weeks including this one. Time to get rolling again.
