snatch grip DL question for Mike

Mike, did the snatch grip DL's yesterday and it went real well.

My question is today my upper back is real sore.  Is that normal when doing this exercise?

Thanks, Chad

Yes. It targets the upper back more than a regular deadlift. The ROM is also larger, so it should affect the rest of the muscles a little more as well.

Hope that helps.

Also, random technique tips for Snatch Grip Deadlift:
Whenever I have done them, the grip is too wide for me to use an over-under grip. I use double overhand and then use straps. For me, grip has never been an issue, so using straps for the limited time I was doing Snatch Grip deadlift wasn't a big deal. Use that and draw your own conclusions.

ive now started deadlifting twice a week, one heavy day, one day snatch grip double overhand for 6 sets of 3, and deadlifts improving well, I do less assistance work and more different movements of the powerlift working good

Be careful with them though. We've had some people do them for 6 weeks at a time and it gave them short term back issues. Make sure that your form is tight. It may be wise to rotate them for 3 weeks at a time. Just my 2 cents.
