I was just wondering how often should I use knee wraps when squatting? I wanna compete in raw meets. I guess knee wraps arent allowed in some of those. Right now Im using them on max effort days maybe once or twice a month. I was wondering if that is too often? I see one guy who uses them every week at my gym. Thanks everybody.
This really depends... personally I hate wraps, so I only use them once during meet prep and again at the meet, but I seem to be the oddball on this subject.
If your planned raw meet allows wraps, I would def use them at least once a month, but if not, they could still as an "overload" of sorts.
Are there any feds that still consider knee wraps to be raw? I thought basically all of them prohibit knee wraps in the raw division. I don't think you can use knee sleeves in the APF either, and in the USAPL you're only going to be allowed (starting at the end of July) to wear single ply neoprene sleeves, which basically means you can only wear the rehband knee sleeves.
I agree that it depends on the lifter. IMO, you want to use them enough that you can wrap tight and it doesn't affect your technique and isn't distracting during the lift. That would be the minimum. Also, if the person wrapping your knees isn't out of breath when they are done, the wraps aren't tight.
Beyond that, use wraps for all your specific meet prep. If you are prepping for a meet and will be competing in wraps, I'd start using them in the last Transmutation block at the latest. That will typically give you 5-6 weeks in them before the meet.
