Skipped Zerchers. It was getting late and I was tired.
Total Training Time: 134min
This session was pretty damn good. Ill start with squats. This was a brand new suit, which is always extremely tough to get on anyway. I accidentally picked up my SHIRT slippers instead of my SUIT slippers. I put them over my legs anyway. They were stretched to the max, but they helped some. The thing is they didnt stretch up my leg enough to finish the suit off, so I had to fight to get my suit on for almost an hour. During this time I was sweating like a fat guy. 825 was easy, but high because the damn suit wasnt on all the way. This weight helped it slide up, though. 865 was quick. Then I decided to go 915. I smoked it honestly. I felt like the suit pulled me over a little (it still wasnt seated quite right), but I moved it really fast. Then I moved on to bench. I usually bench terribly after 95% squatting, so I didnt know what to expect. It wasnt bad at all. I hit a solid 505 at a legit 9. This was a 3 pound PR, so Im happy. That means my bench program is working.
Everything was a little iffy today. I had to play dodgeball in the ridiculous heat for an hour and a half right before training, so that may be why. Everything was good enough, just not snappy like it will be by the end of the week. I ended up doing more work than I planned on for bench because I wanted to make sure I could touch my opener. It will go as long as the collar is high. That shirt is actually dialed in just about perfectly. I may not even need to change shirts, but Ill leave that to be a meet decision. Deadlifts actually felt good today too, for the first time in a while. Maybe I can pull something decent after all.
looks like I may have to rent a car, shuttle price from dallas/fort worth is 128 round trip. Give me a call if you still haven't figured out how you are getting there and we'll figure something out
Awesome lifting man. Decided to come on over from Supertraining so I can see what you actually do for a program. Looks really well thought out and working incredibly well.
Felt better today, but still not snappy. That should come by next workout. Im going to do some recovery work on Wednesday, so that should help. I was a little sore from yesterday, but it wasnt bad. All in all, decent day. I do need to get some serious rest, though.
Overall, Im pretty happy with the meet. My primary goal of winning my weight class was accomplished. I also got into the 900 squat club. As far as squats, they went pretty good. I opened at 826 and the decent speed was WAY slow, which almost got the best of me, but it came up okay. I was more conservative on my second than I originally wanted to be, but I needed to get the descent speed right. I hammered the second just like it should be. I then called for 903 on my third. As I got into the hole, I pitched back a little on my left side and almost lost my balance (bad). But through the grace of God, I kept my balance and actually stood up pretty quickly with it. The refs told me I couldnt have cut it any higher and still gotten whites. Thats right were I want to be! I made some dumb mistakes while benching. I opened with 584 and almost missed it because my descent speed was slow and when I started pressing, I pushed toward my feet. I finished it, but it was ugly. We went conservative again with 622 (wanted 630). This time I grooved it better and it went better, but still just not pretty. I should have put my tighter shirt on, but I didnt (dont ask me why I have no idea). I jacked the shirt I had a little more and tried to make 661 work, but it just didnt want to today. My fault for not changing shirts. I upped my DL opener to 760 to seal the win. I stroked it pretty easily. I kept with the plan and went to 804. It got out in front of me just a touch, but it wasnt that hard. I went to 826 for my 3rd and it should have gone, but it didnt. I got it about 6 off the floor before it died. I totaled 2330, won my weight class, was #2 best lifter (second to Brian Siders), and re-wrote the Jr 275 record books. As I said, not perfect, but not a bad day either! Next stop is Worlds in Canada this November.
Some lessons learned: 1) Im going to try Oly shoes on the bench. That might help my arch while maintaining the rules. 2) I need to know my gear better. I need to know which shirt is good for which lift, etc. 3) I trained too heavy too often on DL. Fix it. 4) I want to re-visit the DL suit. If I have a good day and get 30 pounds out of a DL suit, Ill set a world record. ****************

Monday- Ran 3 miles
Mike:
Oly shoes are working well for me in the squat right now, but not so much on the bench. Of course just like everything this too is individual, but I find that I am not quite able to drive through my heels as well with the heel as with just a flat sole (METAL) shoes. Since I bench with my feet flat this might or might not be applicable.
If you look at some of my bench videos you will see that I use a deflated volleyball underneath my mid-lower back to improve my arch. That might be something you may want to try in the future.
