This was my best bench session to date. I am thinking that my bench is around 630 now. That is a huge improvement since the last time I've put a shirt on. All that raw lockout work with bands has really improved my bench press. Big thanks to Mike for helping me move pins and j-hooks, and spotting/loading/handing off.
On another note, I don't think that I've lost a whole lot of weight, but I do feel a little leaner. Emphasis on the 'little'.
I used a wider stance on the squat tonight and liked it again. It took a couple sets to get the right depth, but once I found it, I was good. The knees really didn't ache that much, but my back felt a little beat up from the shirt benching. I wanted to get into the suit tonight, but I feel a little spent. All in all, I am just gald that I was able to get some kind of squat volume in tonight.
Nice PR tonight! Really surprised myself without the handoff. 420 x3 @9 is definitely a strong PR for me. Last week the paused benches felt a little ****ty.
Big run tomorrow so I didn't push the legs too hard!
Overall...not really bad session tonight. Wanted to hit some higher stress volume. I probably shouldn't have done the 440, I should have tried 430 x3. Everything did feel really good despite not haveing any handoffs. Its good to know that I don't need a strong handoff to train heavy.
Overall, this was a really nice session. I finally broke the 600lbs mark and am excited to go beyond. I really just hope that I have a lot of things dialed in for Bench Nationals.
Also...after speaking with Mike T. about Men's Nationals and full meet powerlifting, I think that I would have had a really good chance at a 1-2 place finish at nationals ONLY if my training had been spot on and I had spent consistent time in gear. In no way am I saying that I would have won, but the potential to do very well is there.
Tomorrow, if there is time, I may put the deadlift suit on and lift something heavy.
I've been on TDY and my laptop broke so I couldn't even log my workouts there. I also just spent 8 days in mexico and hadn't trained in 12 days. Monday was my first day back on a regular schedule. I am excited.
I am getting ready for the USAPL Bench Press Nationals.
This session only took 75 minutes. I trained on base today and it worked out well except that I couldn't get the straps up by myself. The bench press work went a little better than expected. Still didn't hit any PRs in the exercise, but I feel them coming on.
The suit squats with the straps down were a little surprising. I think that I undershot my estimated 1RM by around 25lbs. I think that right now I'd be good for mid-high 6's with this loose ass suit without knee wraps. It is a stock 48 centurion and I compete with a stock 46. The pop was alright even though I don't feel that I get much out of this suit at the moment with the straps down, but it should be a good initiation into squatting in gear again.
Deadlift off 4 inch block - 10-14 lifts 435 x2 @8...at least it felt like an 8 465 x2 @8 495 x2 @8.5 405 x4 @8
Close Stance Squats 225 x6 @7 275 x6 @7 325 x6 @8
Good session tonigh especially for the benching. I am hoping that the close grip reverse band presses will take my tricep/lockout strength through the roof. Don't have much time, but it was a decent session.
Shaun looked really good in the shirt tonight hitting a solid 525 x3... Scott is getting ready for the raw nationals...
