Thanks for the comments Eric!

Good luck to you this weekend.  I look forward to seeing the results of your labor.

That 640 was a STRONG pull...nice job.

As far as the Q-Bar, I train w/ it, it's a great bar.  I don't think the negativity is justified on the deads.  It's a good solid bar, I had more trouble adapting to the great big squat bar at your meet than I ever did w/ the Q-Bar at The Pound.  I didn't even notice a difference on the deads.  However, I also didn't notice any difference in the dead bar at your meet.  It was just the squat bar that was noticeably different.

Your numbers look great!!

Thanks Tony.  I don't plan to go "all out" on Saturday.  The idea is to just get a feel for how I do under meet conditions in single ply equipment.  Some lifters go better in a meet than in training, some go worse, and some go the same.  I usually fall into the first category; so until I do a meet in single ply we really don't know what I am (or am not!) capable of.

I need to get my hands on that Q-bar.  Hoop told us he may bring his the next time he comes to train, so hopefully he will.

Good luck to you coming up as well!

I liked your interview in the June Powerlifting USA magazine. Its good to read about somebody from this board. Keep it up Eric! I agree with you about the raw lifting, I think powerlifting has got to go that route instead of coming up with more powerful and more powerful suits. I really dont care what somebody can do in a triple ply bench shirt, Id much rather see what they could do raw. Good stuff and keep it up brother.

Thanks for the kind words!  I am glad that you liked the PL USA interview!

Hello Eric,
I am a current student at the University of Florida and was looking to see if you could help me with my sheiko programming. I am 24 weeks out of a meet then after that I will have 17 weeks until collegiate nationals. I have competed several sheiko programs before but have not done one for some time. I was planning on doing the first few raw then adding gear into training closer to the meet. I am looking for recommendations on which sheikos to run and in what order. I am also intertested in your thoughts on when to deload and when to just start the next sheiko. Thank  you in advance for any help you can offer.

Nick:

Contact my coach Dave Bates at veggaman@gmail.com and tell him everything you just told me.  Also tell him that you ran this by me and that I specifically told you to go to him-with my blessing.

Nobody (other than Sheiko) knows how to program the training of powerlifters better than Dave-seriously.

Work with Dave, train, get stronger:  repeat.

Eric

17 June 2009 (Wed A.M.)

1. Squat: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; KNEE WRAPS: 80% x 1; 85% x 1; 93% x 1 (9)

Training time: 36 minutes
2. Wide Grip Bench: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; 80% x 1; 85% x 1; 90% x 1; 100% x 1 (10)

Training time: 23 minutes

3. Deadlift: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; DL SUIT: 80% x 1; 85% x 1; 90% x 1 (9)
Training time: 24 minutes

Bench press felt solid at 100%. I ran a .12, so there is not much left-but some. I also tied the fastest speed I have run in knee wraps on the squat with 93%. However, I am beginning to realize that on the deadlift that I pull better with a 7 foot stiff bar than a 7.5 foot deadlift bar. I used the deadlift bar on Monday (raw) and did not run as fast at 90% as I do with the 7 foot bar. Then today I did not run as fast at 90% on the deadlift bar as I usually do on the 7 foot straight bar. I guess it sucks to be me if the meet I go to is using a deadlift bar. I will continue to work with the bar these next few weeks, because I think the USPF meet uses a 7.5 foot DL bar.

Eric,

Since I react very well to moderate volume/high frequency training, I am trying to read as much Sheiko as I can. The problem is... the only translations I have found were on the EliteFTS site, and let's just say they were more humorous than helpful! Phrases such as "the squatting with the rod on the spin" is just too damn cryptic! Do you have any better translations? If not, that's fine, I will just keep plugging along...

I'll answer for him as I'm not sure where Eric is at at the moment.

I don't know if there are any better translations of the book, but I will have Eric's DVD about using the Sheiko methods available probably by the end of this week.

I know what you mean by the translation being tough to interpret, but you just need to re-word it in your own words. "Knee bends with the rod on the spine". Knee Bend = squat. Rod = bar. Squatting with the bar on the spine = back squat. Also fyi, squat "scissors" = lunges.

Hey guys.  Hey Kyle.  I have been very busy on this end, and I am leaving for California early in the morning tomorrow.

Please contact Dave Bates at veggaman@gmail.com and he will direct you to the Sheiko chat forum that he moderates.  There will be PLENTY for you to read up on pertaining to Sheiko.

After that, Mike is right-buying the DVD is really the best first step.  It is 3.5 hours of nothing but the Sheiko training method.

Be well,

Eric

Thank you very much for the replies Eric/Mike.

I pretty much spent all day at work reading Sheiko (found out I was getting laid off today!), studying his methods, and adapting them to my needs as a multiply lifter. I have my training cycle for the next 16 or so weeks mapped out mentally, and am in the process of putting them on paper. It will look very much like Sheiko/RTS, but the gear work will be more intense and the secondary sessions more "adaptive". I will email Dave when I get everything figured out to see what he thinks, then post the cycle with his suggestions/modifications on here.

Thanks for the help!
