Taking a week off
Permalink

Ive just completed my first week of the intial RTS template prescribed in the manual.(im in a volume block) Im not sure how, but my lower back has suffered some minor inury, i was able to bench fine today but squatting or pulling would be out of the question. Should i just take the week fully off and start up week 2 next week or what i need to start the volume block all over? Or should i just bench and take the 2 days off from lower body? Any suggestions would help

Take it from someone who has endured back problems for years(due to bad form), take some time off. Give it a good week. If your still unable to squat or dead, maybe see your doc for an Xray-MRI. Do not play with your spine.

What's the injury? If you can be 100% sure it's muscular/soft tissue and NOT spinal, then...
Well, I can't tell you what to do. If it was me, I would bench if I was 100% sure it was soft tissue and not spinal. If it was spinal, I'd see a doc before I did anything else. I'm not saying you should do the same, but that's what I would do.

I honestly have no clue. Is there anyway i could tell? It hurts more when i sit down for longer periods of time rather than bending a lot.

I can't tell enough online to make a determination for you. If you have it available to you, I'd see a doctor and see what they say. If not, err on the side of caution and take a week off. After that, you should be good for benching at least.

As always see a doctor, but don't make the mistake that I and many others have when you find out its just a muscle strain. Recovery is a process that you need to work at. Don't just think I'll just take it easy and it'll heal itself. Give it three days wihtout anything but ice. Then continue to Ice the crap out of it and stretch. Lots of stretching, the lower back is very complex and some muscles that suppor the spine are very deep, a strain in these muscles can linger for weaks unless your force the area to move and recover. Come back slow, a re-injury takes longer to heal cause your body begins to form scar tissue around it and your nervous system will start to clamp down all the muscles around it for protection.

alright thanks guys. I helped a lady move yesterday and i did some power washing today and actually my back is feeling really good. Ive decided to just completely take this week off, and im off the rest of the week so ill have 4 solid days to recover. I think it was just a minor muscle strain, im just not used to lower back pain so i think i over reacted. Ill keep up the stretching and ice as well.

Regarding my volume block, i was only 1 week in it, if i come back next week should i just count it as my 2nd or due to the time off should i restart from week 1?
