Contest Prep
Week 1 - Day 4

- Weight at 274.2 this morning. I would like to stay here now.
- Ahh my hometown, where it is -40C in the Winter, and +40C in the summer

Paused Shirted Bench (Medium)
- x3 \ 5% \ 8-9
- Kind of went off the beaten path a bit today trying to learn what this shirt is about
- RPEs in this instance were not really true RPEs based on strength but more based on technique in the shirt
- I experimented with different things to touch, and even though I was touching it was difficult
- The more I was warmed up, the easier it was to touch
- Note to self for squat and bench at meet -> WARM UP A LOT
455 x3 @9
475 x2 @10
440 x3 @9.5
440 x3 @9.5

Time: 17 Min

Deadlift against Doubled Mini - No Belt
- x3 \ 5% \ 8-9
- Beat my PR without a belt by quite a bit, and beat my PR established with a belt by 5 lbs
530 x3 @8
565 x3 @9 (PR)
535 x3 @8 (5%)
535 x3 @9

Time: 15 Min

Incline (thumb from smooth)
- x6 \ 5% \ 8-9
- This type of exercise just tends to sneak up and cream me
230 x6 @8
240 x6 @9
230 x6 @10 (5%)

Time: 10 Min

Total Training time: 100 Min

Nice deadlifting TRON ! Way to represent! Great job on your PR. I have a question. So with the deadlifting against those bands, how much besides the 565 are you pulling? Im not familiar with bands. Ive never had the chance to use them, I hope to buy some once I start working again. From what Ive read in Louie's Book of Methods and his articles in PLUSA the bands and chains have tremendous benefits. Louie proved several people with doctorates wrong that claimed that chains and bands have no benefit. Anyway sorry about the rambling. Great job on your lifting TRON, you're gonna have a good contest brother!

Hey Mike Thanks Man!

That is a good question about the bands on this exercise. I have wondered that myself, and have always meant to one day hang some weight from my lockout position in the pull to see where it is at. At this point I have always been a little lazy to try.
In this configuration, the bands seem to really kick in where my sticking point naturally is, so that is a nice bonus too.
I find that lifting against bands helps my raw lifts allot as well as my equipped.

Thanks allot for the encouragement Mike!!!

What's up with the SI Joint?

Good pulling the other day. That weight + doubled minis is no joke.

When's the meet?

Hey Bob
For the L5-SI, I injured one side a few years ago, and up until around Christmas It was kind of a dead spot in my back.
I found a few good mobility exercises that have straightened that out, but now both sides kind of stiffen up every once and a while, and everything in the area will kind of seize up. Plus I have a little bit of arthritis there two, but not too much.

Thanks alot for the props, I think one of the reasons I was so stiff today there is because I had a good day pulling yesterday smile

I am competing on July the 18th. I am looking forward to it, as it has been a little over a year since I was on the platform last.

Well get that damn tight suit on then and get a big squat happening, rather than fearing it.

You look like you get a little bunched up in the bottom. Maybe try pointing your toes out/pushing your knees out more. Descent speed looks good. You're close!

You would have only got 2 reps with that if you didn't have the handlebar mustache. That adds a completely new dimension of toughness!

I definitely will give the angling my toes, and pushing my knees out more a try Mike, thanks for checking it out.

I think for my next training cycle I am going to experiment with a higher bar position. The way I squat now is great for me raw, but I think a higher bar position would help me break a bit better in a suit.

And Jordan you are 100% right about the stache. I find it really helps me to ooze machismo, and subsequently hit those extra reps in the gym.

Contest Prep
Week 2 - Day 1
Skills Eval

- Morning weight was 273.4 lbs
- Things didnt work out too well for me today
- Got into a bit of a situation during squats
- Going to switch my goals for this meet to get modest PBs

Suited Squat (Medium) - With Belt - With Wraps
- x1 \ 8-9
- Not hitting depth in this suit. Think I am going to have to break down and wear a looser suit for the meet
- After my last squat I got a bit messed up trying to re-rack the bar. I finally decided that it was not going to happen, so I miraculously dumped forward onto the bench hooks (on purpose) instead of taking it down and dumping it to the pin
- My mental sails were pretty deflated after that

135x6, 225x5, 315x3, 405x2 - (belt)
495x2 (belt + bottoms), 565x1 (straps up + belt), 605x1 (full equipment)

675x1
705x1 (crazy incident re-racking the bar)

Paused Shirted Bench (Medium)
- x1 \ 8-9
- This went not terribly well

135x3, 225x3, 315x1
405x1  (shirt to 2-board)

490 x1 (had a hard time un-racking this and basically had to take two tries to un-rack)
500 x0 (just missed locking out my left arm)

Suited Deadlift (Medium) - With Belt
- x1 \ 8-9
- Cut this short, not in the best of moods at this point, and not terribly motivated

315x1, 405x1 - (belt), 495x1, 585x1 - (belt+ suit)

660 x1

Total Training time: 134 Min

Contest Prep
Week 2 - Day 2

- Did not sleep last night at all, had a lot of anxiety over my poor Skills Eval yesterday.
- Also the old l5-si seemed to be really aggravated, probably because of the squatting "incident" where I had to ninja the bar onto the bench pins.
- Surprisingly enough though I had really good training today.
- Got myself tickets to see Motorhead in September and that really boosted my spirits, it is amazing what a good frame of mind can do for you.

Paused Competition Raw Bench
- x1 \ 5% \ 8-9
- I was pretty skeptical of how this was going to work out today, but I ended up having the smoothest raw benching I have done in a very long time.
365 x1 @8
390 x1 @9 (PR)
370 x1 @8 (5%)
370 x1 @9

Time: 14 Min (Medium Stress 20-22 Min)

3Board (thumb from smooth) + 90mm
- x6 \ 5% \ 8-9
- First set was really great and I thought I was on my way to a PR, but once I hit the rest the bands really kicked my ass on the 6th rep
265 x6 @8
285 x6 @9.5
265 x6 @10 (5%)

Time: 11 Min

Zercher Squat - No Belt
- x6 \ 5% \ 8-9
- Congratulations Mike T. If it was your sick little goal to have me almost crap my pants for two weeks in a row, then Bravo sir, mission accomplished.
370 x6 @8 (time for trip to the can)
390 x6 @9 (PR)
370 x6 @8 (5%)
370 x5 @10 (forearms gave out on me)

Time: 15 Min

Total Training time: 84 Min
