hey guys! Top end is clearly the weakness as you can tell by the title of the topic lol! SO whats up, what do you guys prefer for the top end, something like a below the knee rack pull or a deadlift with pretty heavy band tension. Enough where you can still pull around 70% of your 1RM straight weight max for a heavy single with the band tension??? Thanks all D.J.
Go with the band pulls that you suggested as the base of your programming (I'd even go with a configuration that allowed 80% barweight). Rotate in the rack pulls as needed.
Reverse Band Pulls with a green (average) band from about 5'6" pin height works perfect. I can speak on behalf of Evan Dunn who posts on this sight that that height also works perfect for him. It gives about 50 lbs off the floor which is almost exactly what the suit gives us. And just for reference, he is 5'8" and I am 5'4" and it works great for both of us.
I would say it depends on where you are in your training to pick which one to use. If you are further out from your meet, off-season type stuff, go with rack pulls. If you are closer to the meet, do reverse bands. This is just because reverse bands are more specific to the meet lift as they mimic the full lift versus rack pulls only being half the lift.
