I'm still trying to get my numbers worked out...I'm not sure if I am doing too much or too little, but I've been having good workouts.
Squats +40# of Chain Warmups Cyclic 70%x3 325+c @7 75%x3 355+c @7+ 80%x2x6 380+c @8 I love squatting w/ chains...I can't explain why, but it's just a good strong lift.
Box Squats Holy Hannah...We have been box squatting incorrectly for 10 years. I guess we have been basically "depth testing" w/ the box, meaning we have been "touch and going" and staying tight. I read a discussion w/ Jason Eggers and Robert Fuller and others on the USAPL forum on Box Squats and BIG OOPS we've been doing it wrong. We have NOT been relaxing our hips on the box and exploding up. This definitely changes the poundages I have always done. So, tonight I am just scratching the surface on my numbers. I used 400 for a max just to get a base and I will go up from there. Tonight was feeling it out.
70%x3 280 75%x3 300 80%x4 320 80%x2 320 70%x5 280 These were fun to do and I just wish I could rewind 10years of training. I'm not sure if this was 3rd grade weight or not, but it was a workout.
Dumbbell Bench 4x6 @ 8/9 100x6 120x6 120x6 120x6 almost a 10
I really enjoy reading your training log Tony and look forward to visiting with you again in a few months. I have become fascinated with the box squat and I have committed this training cycle to learning it. I have tried to read as much as I can & sort through the varying opinions & methods - trying to find what works for me.
It is a bit humbling but I feel VERY different (in a good way) about what I am doing. Since I train by myself I like not having to load a lot of weight on the bar without a spotter. After 3 weeks I feel like I am just now getting a handle on the weights and staying explosive. My quads have been sore after each workout and that hasn't really happened to me in a long time.
I have my box height set to were I am generally around 2 inches below parallel (darn USAPL ha ha) and I feel real comfortable working there. Jason got me thinking alot about using bands from above (over) - so once I get them - I am going to try it. I don't want to lose the feel of standing with 500+.
I look forward to watching your progress with this Tony.
Robert...thanks for reading my stuff...but also, thank you for your discussion on the box squats. Who knows I could have continued doing it wrong until I was my dad's age:)
I really like all of the stuff I'm doing on here because I have the bands and chains and boxes, but never really incorporated into my training consistently or correctly for that matter. Hopefully, all this stuff will make me a better lifter. I appreciate your support.
Wednesday 7-29-09 12:00-1:00 w/ Elbie and my brothers dog Riley is here too. My brother lives in Boston, MA and is the Head Hockey Coach at St. Mark's (a boarding school out there). So, his wife took their 2 boys and my 2 girls out to a play and left me w/ the dog. He is a great dog, BUT OH MY, is he HUUUUGE. He is a Black Golden Doodle and he is the size of a small horse. Elbie can easily stand under his legs. So, I am training by my lonesome today. 179lbs
Not much time so I am re-configuring the workout a bit. I think I am starting to get the hang of the Firm Coded System and we'll see on Saturday.
Supposed to do 3 board press w/ index on smooth. Dogs don't have opposable thumbs to hold boards. Did it w/ pins in the rack. 3x10 @8/9 315x10 315x10 315x10
Good Mornings 3x10 225x10 225x10 225x10
My pt is coming along well. I have been doing it every Tuesday and I am definitely seeing results. Sure the pain is still there, but we have relegated it to a few areas we are concentrating on instead of pain all over. Basically I get torture on the underside of my elbow, on the points of both shoulders and two points on my rear delts. Anatomically speaking they are all connected and the aggravation in my elbow is as a result of the other areas and all of it compensating for each other. I'm sure you all care, but I thought it was interesting.
Hey Tony, I hope this post finds you well. I was wondering if you knew of a place in MN that sells powerlifting chains and what type I would buy for BP vs. squat. I'm just under 5'11". I don't want to spend a ton of money and I'm assuming it would cost a lot to ship, if I ordered online.
Given your training history, I bet you're a bit more rep-dominant than the RPE chart makes it seem. Until I get enough data to change your RPE chart, continue to base your training weights off of days where you do x3 or lower. Does that make sense?
