I figure I post a lot of training information around here, so you guys wouldn't mind if I plug my products a little....

We talk training a lot on this forum.  There's a lot to it!  There's a ton of factors to consider when you're trying to design an optimal training program.  It's not just about simply getting stronger, either -- it's about getting as strong as possible as quickly as possible with the fewest injuries and best longevity in the sport.  So, yeah, it can be complicated.  So what can you do about it?

There's three ways to go about it.  The first way... You can pretend it isn't hard, just pick up heavy stuff and that's it.  Convince yourself that injuries happen, and when your career is over, remember things how they should have been instead of how they actually were.  I can't imagine who would want to go about it this way.

Another way... become a student of the sport.  Learn everything you can and implement it into your real life training.  Strive to understand how and why things happen the way they do in a training and competitive environment.  Then apply this knowledge to your training and reap the benefits of your work and study.  This is the way I came up.  These people will invest a lot of time, money, and effort into their passion.  To them, I offer this:  Allow me to "tutor" you in effect.  I'll gladly teach what I know and as I learn more, I'll pass that along to you.  The cost is $20 per training week and I'll write training for you and teach you about organizing training yourself.  In reality, this is a small investment compared to others that you'll likely make for this hobby and the payoff will be better.

But what if you don't want to be a student of the sport?  You've got a job, family, the rotary club, etc.  You're lucky to find time to train.  I understand that as well.  I think I said in another thread, I'm not an expert on the internal combustion engine and I really don't want to be, but when I have a problem, I hire someone to solve it.  That same $20 per training week investment can get you the same world-class programming that you'd have to study litterally years to get yourself.  Then, you can focus on being the athlete and let someone else be the coach.

And just to add a little perspective here... $20 per week will be about $4 per training session for most people.  It's just under $3 per day.  If it doesn't sound like a good deal to you to have a world class athlete program your training, that's fine.  I'll still happily provide as much information as I can in multiple different mediums.  But if you'd like to make an investment in your powerlifting education or if you'd like to simply reap the benefits of having training of superior construction, send me an email at Power275@gmail.com.

Thanks for reading, everyone.  Now back to your regularly scheduled program....

For what it is worth...

I am someone who utilizes this training service of Mike, and I would just like to comment that I am 100% happy.

Before I began training with Mike's program in late December of 2008, I was litterally injured for 2 years straight after moving into my new house, had not made any appreciable gains in that time, and could barely bend over in between sets to tie my shoes.

Now I am training with twice as much volume and frequency, am almost 100% healthy (also due to some neat mobility exercises I have learned along the way as well), and am heading towards previous 3rd attempt weights being my last warmup.

Sincerely
Chris Yantha

Good write-up. Obviously shows what years of training, learning and competing in the sport does for Mike as a personal trainer. I have been thinking of doing the same thing as yourself for a while now, and was wondering if anyone being trained would step forward and share their results. Too bad that the dollar is so poor. It would cost me like 75 bucks a week after the conversion... lol.

I am in Canada as well, and with the exchange right now it is approximately 25$ give or take a few cents here or there.

Hey, if the price per barrel of oil goes back up, it will be under 20$ eventually

Another "endorsement" for Coach Mike.

I've been working with Mike since the beginning of '09, so not too long.  Given that I'm older (47), I didn't really expect to be making much progress in Q1 of this year:  I thought that if I could just get into the "groove" of training with a new coach, and doing a new program, I'd be doing good.

I also had some reservations about the "go hard until there's a problem" philosophy (and if I get this wrong, well, don't blame Mike, blame me).  I thought maybe this approach was great for youngsters, but not so great for old guys:  I had been avoiding deadlifting heavy regularly, I had been taking "deload" weeks no matter what, and part of me thought that this was the price I paid for being old.

Those expectations & beliefs have been blown out of the water.  Not only are key lifts getting better in terms of poundages and technique, but I'm learning more and more about myself and how to track my recovery, my effort, and how all this fits together.

A big thing to keep in mind is that I'm not a powerlifter.  I'm a strongman.  Mike has tailored his programming and philosophy to my sport very well.

As an example, I've made more progress on Atlas Stones while working with Mike than I did all last year.

I have been using Mikes services for over 12 weeks now. My progress has been amazing.

It is hard to quantify as X amount of pounds, but he has helped me overcome so much.

The greatest part has been seeing how he programs, and the ideas he has given me.

Since I live in a different time zone, I thought the time difference would impact how quickly Mike can respond to my queries. This isn't the case. He has helped me understand a lot about the sport...as well as a lot about myself.

I have booked another 22 weeks with Mike, and the plan looks awesome.

His new logging system should help me 10 fold.

Also he has given me some mental tools that will impact my training more than anything else.

Bump.

Mike's gonna be stuck with me for a long time to come.  He's been a huge help working through / around an injury, modifying programming, talking everything through with me, generally being a great sounding board, and providing great support and motivation.
