I dont have the luxury of good fitness stores around here but I need a new barbell. I bought one from a local guy and its just not doing the trick for deads and bench.

I have found a couple of places such as

But I was wondering if anybody knew others. Or had suggestions.

I am looking for a bar with a 28MM grip and deep knurdling.

I heard  that the texas power bar had some decent whip and the price is definitly right.

The q-bar is out of my price range for now and so are the ivanko and eleiko bars.

Whats peoples opinion on the Texas power bar for bench and deads. I dont plan on using it for squats.

I compete IPF so the super whip bars I dont want I just need something that is similar to what I will face in a contest that is quality without hindering my training because my current bar is really messing up my technique and performance

The Teaxas Power Bars are great for all around bars. They are kind of an all in one thing so the price isn't too bad.

Have you tried craigslist.com? You can search in your area. They may have nothing but you may get some great deals.

Ya I have looked there is nothing unfortunatly.

 

I know the texas power bar is IPF approved which is why I am tempted to go that route plus they have been around for a while so I am guessing they must be pretty good.

The only issue is that there seems to be multiple manufacturers that make the Texas power bar now so I am wondering what the difference is if any and where people might have had great experiences bying them from before that sell them at a great price.

The gym i train at has 3 texas powerbars. They are great bars. Insane grip and seem to stand up to anything you throw at it. I would recommend one since they are 400 bucks (+/-)

I pull with a TPB. And you can find them online for $225 (at least I used to be able to).


...oh yeah, the Canada thing...  I forgot.

I use a TPB from EliteFTS.  it's a good all around bar, took me a bit to get used to it compared to my "bargain basement" bars, but I really like it.

I have pulled with a Texas Deadlift Bar.  No center knurling, a little more "whip".  I didn't find that it gave me a huge advantage over the standard TPB.

Ya Its going to be a little more expensive for me in Canada but its going to be cheaper than my bar I got anyways.

I think I will go that route.

thanks for the help. I really wish I didnt have to buy another bar but thats what I get for bying **** in the first place. I should have known.

Did you end up buy one from Curd?

If so that is really a shame....

Myself and some other colleagues of mine have all bought from him and the bars were fantastic.

Maybe you can return it...

Ya I did buy it from Curd. Its ok for squatting but thats it really. I checked the bar online and I dont know if you got something different but I got the YORK bar. He told me the grip was going to be 30MM which isnt bad considering but its actually 32MM. I dont know what it is but its either the ends dont rotate or barely or even one side more than the other because the bar feels uneven when I press and pull it. I dont thinks its uneven in terms of weight but even when I try to spin the ends, it doesnt do so freely.

Ya for me, more money to spend.

I just bought a texas power bar from Westside this morning. I know they dont take a long time to deliver their stuff and I have always likes ordering from them and the shipping is right.

I guess all this extra work Ive been doing isnt going towards a new bench shirt.

If it isn't the bar you have ordered, and isn't working properly - you definitely need to talk to Curd and get it straightened out. I know I would.

He is a good guy and I am sure he will take care of you, even if it is an exchange for another peice of gear.

I just ended up buying a no-name 1500 lb test black carbon bar and it is great. The only problem with it is that it does not have center knurling, but that never has bugged me.
I would still be predominately be using it if I didn't get the opportunity to get my hands on a used q-bar

I think he just made a mistake it telling me that it was 30MM when in fact its 32MM.

I went and checked to see if my bar was not spinning properly and I was right. 1 side spins although not that great but still ok then the other side hardly does and only in 1 direction when I spin it the other way it struggles big time and some times doesnt even.

I am really busy for the next 4 days but next week I will prob be giving curd a call and see what he can do if anything. Ive only used the bar for 1.5 weeks and it was like this from the start so its definitly not my fault.

I am really excited for my TSB though. I prob should have just gone this route in the beginning and saved myself the headache and money

 York bars have a great reputation - and if you're not getting rotation on the sleeves, that's a defect in the bar.  I'd definitely talk to the seller.
