Alright heres what I did today. I lifted with my friend who is a big Brett Favre fan. He's just coming back to the gym. He took about 6 weeks off:
bench press barX12 135X12 225X10 275X3 315X2 345X0 (damn missed it. sometimes its good to get pinned. I dont see people ever getting pinned at my gym. I wish they'd try weights that they are not 100% sure they can get. I figure why try 325 or 335 that I know I can get. Why not try higher. I had a spotter too.)
incline dumbell benches 85sX10 95sX6 100sX4 90sX7
hammer strength decline machine iso wide chest 2 45 lb. plates each side X12 3 45 lb. plates each sideX10 3 45 lb. plates + 15 pounds each sideX6 3 45 lb. plates each sideX10
cable crossovers 60X12 75X12 80X12 90X12
Then we did 15 minutes of cardio. I did a mile on the treadmill in about 10 minutes. did 1.33 miles altogether.
I did some bodybuilding exercises today. My friend likes those Muscle & Fitness type workouts. He was telling me about some 100 rep workout they had in it. You take like 30% of your max and do it 100 times. I wont be doing that. I really dont see the benefit in doing it once a week like they said. Alright everybody thanks for reading and peace.
Thats it for today. I got done in about 1 hour 45 minutes. I was happy with the 385X3 on squats raw. It was an extremely hard set for me and I got it so I guess I'm happy about that.
Just to let you know, I'm not ignoring your questions re: training with a crew. In fact, quite the opposite, you kinda got me brainstorming. I don't think I have a problem with intensity / focus training on my own, but my weak point is technique. One of my goals for this year was to find a way to work on that with more experienced strongmen on a more regular basis.
Crap, the year's half-gone and I haven't even started on that.
:sigh:
At one point, I was thinking about relocating to Salt Lake City so that I could train with Van Hatfield on a regular basis. I got to train with him once, and learned a ton. But with the economy and housing prices, that's not really a viable option.
Hey BobW. Thanks for congratulating me on my raw squats. I really appreciate that. Yeah man I hear you about traveling. Gas prices here went up from about $2.00 to $2.65 for the cheap gas in the last month or so. If I had my own car, I'd be travelling an hour each way to that powerlifting gym I was telling you about. Supposedly they got bands and chains and all that stuff. If I ever get married Im moving there. I really think my lifts would go up in that environment. Yeah I hear you about the economy and housing prices. Doing strongman like you do or powerlifting like I do sure can be expensive. Good to hear from you BobW, keep lfting heavy brother.

Pretty soon you are going to have to get a concealed weapons permit for those guns of yours if you ever decide to wear long sleeve shirts in public Mike LOL
Thanks TRON, Jordan Linteris, and Anonymous you guys made me laugh. :D My triceps are kinda sore today. Im looking forward to squatting and deadlifting on Monday. I wanted to mention also I just got my June issue of Powerlifting USA today, theres a really cool interview on Eric Talmant from our very own board in there. If you are a subscriber you know what I'm talking about and if you're not go to the newstand and pick it up. I agree with him pretty much 100% of the things he said in his interview about powerlifting. I like how hes doing those Raw Unity meets and focusing on the raw aspect of powerlifting.
pause squats (no knee wraps) 225X8 245X6 275X6 315X5

Thats it took me about 2 hours to complete this workout. I hit 2 PRs today so I am happy about that. Congratulations to Big Mike and Eric Talmant who had great meet results on Saturday. Did anybody else compete on Saturday? Well I finished up mowing grass a little bit ago so Im done for today. See you all tomorrow. Peace. Lift heavy and smart.
Maybe I should BobW. You think theres any chance I could get some female groupies here if I did? jk. LOL :) Every other sport has groupies, why not powerlifting I say. Haha.
