Chest pains
Permalink

Lately I have been having some soreness on both sides of my chest were the pecs and the front delts meet, sort of in my armpit. It doesnt bother me on equipped pressing, but pressing raw aggrivates it a lot. My chest feels really tight and unstable from time to time, even with constant stretching and icepacks. Any idea of what is going on here, and any idea on how to fix what the issue is. Any feedback would be awesome since I would be choked if my pressing had to stop because of this.

Go see a soft tissue therapist, or even better ART.

One thing that has been the greatest help with my shoulders is broomstick dislocations.

Grab a broomstick with your arms out wide as possible. Your arms must be straight as possible.

start with the broomstick in front, keeping your arms straight holding it with a wide grip (each end of the stick to begin with), rotate the broomstick over your head and touch the broomstick to your back.

Like this:

But with the finish being behind

I do 50 of these a day, moving my hands in every day.

Now these may not be the greatest thing for you, so you will need to see a therapist...but they have changed my lifting forever.

My flexibility of my shoulder girdle has increased and my posture is improving everyday.

It also seems to aid in bloodflow to the shoulders.

Just a suggestion.

Hey Jordan
You have been having some really good bench training lately with some excellent increases. Maybe you really need to back off hard for a week or two and let everything in there get a bit of a break?

Classic pec tendonitis. I used to get it really bad and Brady Stewart gets it from time to time. I used self massage tools, Brady sees an ART therapist. We both agree, however, that if it's left untreated, it ends up as a pec strain that WILL take you out of pressing for a number of weeks.

If it's bad enough to mention, try skipping one bench workout, increase the self massage stuff (use the end of the broomstick that Dean was talking about to poke and prod the soft tissue around, but don't overdo it). Then see where you're at when you come back to benching. Likely you'll still need reduced training loads for a while. Tendonitis is an overuse injury that needs time to heal.

I used to get the same thing. Once I started foam rolling my pecs and under-arm area before/after lifting, it stopped being a problem. I did/do a fair amount of stretching with the bands, dislocates, and static doorway stretching too, but I think the foam rolling really helps.

Ok thanks guys. I have equipped pressing today which I am going to do, then from there I will start implementing more stretching and massaging and perhaps back off of the volume for a week or so. Probably wouldnt be a bad thing for me since it has gradually gotten worse from week to week. I thought it was probably pec tendonitis or something along those lines. Glad to hear I am not the only one with this and others found ways to heal up and get past it.
