Hamstring question

My hamstring has been bothering me for about a week now. Its sore at the back of my knee where the hamstring connects. At first I thought maybe it was just cramped up from a plane flight where I had no leg room. I think it had more to do with how hard I was pushing it on squats. My training partner asked me today if I could walk and run in place. I showed him I could do both. He said its not a pull then most likely. So I am going to skip legs tomorrow. Friday is my usual leg day. 
Is there any exercises I can do to rehabilitate it? I really would hate having to go to my doctor for this. Oh well.

I had  a similar issue last year.

We figured out that I had a big knot in my hip, on the outside of the glute, that was causing enough tension through the hamstring that it was pulling right behind the knee.

Self massage the entire chain, looking for knots.  Foam roller work, etc.

Thanks Bob. Will do. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Im cool with skipping legs a few weeks if it corrects my problem. At first I was real bummed out but I figure I can at least maintain my upper body in the meantime. Thanks again. Peace.

Hi again Bob. I checked theres no knots in my hamstring. Maybe I just strained it. I thought of two possibilities how this couldve occurred. I had my knees locked out when I was doing stiff legged deadlifts the last few weeks. Also I think I was doing too many sets of squats. I was doing 12 or more the last couple of weeks and I think I was going to deep on squats. I also I think I was pushing myself too much too fast by adding 10 pounds every week. Im not sure what you meant by the foam roller wheel. I dont think we have that machine at my gym. Thanks again for the info and responding. Peace.

As far as the foam roller goes, I picked a vid on youtube for your pleasure:


It's actually a decent intro to using the foam roller, and shows you how to hit the hams.  They're cheap, $15 or less, just google foam roller.

Good luck.

It can be tough to find the culprit.  It took me, an LMT who knows my body pretty well, and my ART guy a few weeks to find exactly where on my hip the issue was; basically, the LMT would climb on top of me as I laid face down, and then she'd balance her bodyweight on her knees - with her knees in my hip, and she'd slowly work around.  Finally found the tight spot that way, and it took her working on it and my ART guy to get it to free up.

Not saying that my case is typical - just saying don't give up, keep trying different techniques.  Consider even rolling on a tennis ball or a lacrosse ball.

I had my knees locked out when I was doing stiff legged deadlifts the last few weeks

You strained/irritated the connective tissue(ligaments, tendons). Always have a slight knee bend when doing good mornings/romanian deads/stiff-leg deads to shift the work off the connective tissues.  Just ice it and try light pulls WITH your knees unlocked and go from there.

Thanks Bob and Dano for the advice. I'll have to buy one of those those foam rollers.
Thanks for the youtube video on those. I think I'll mess around on an exercise ball with that
exercise until I can get a foam roller.

Thanks for the info Dano. When you meant light pulls were you referring to deadlifts? I skipped legs this week and I think I should skip them another week or two just in case.

hey them foam rollers sound good, Do they work if I want to stretch my whole back, even my lower back.Another question do them foam rollers help with my ark?

It feels like a combination between deep tissue massage and a chiropractic visit.

Generally, foam rolling can be done on your upper and middle back. Foam rolling your lower back is tough, though. You don't want to lay across it and hyperextend your vertibral joints. Other tools (baseballs or softballs) are better suited for lower back musculature.

Some people use them to help with the arch, but I think it depends. Foam rolling your upper back is good for the arch. Some lay with a foam roller under their lower back to help with the arch. I don't think this is a good idea, though.

Ima try it thanks.You know what help my stress on my lower back , when I bench and arck I use to use a Forever lever belt 10mm now I use a toro titan belt and my lower back feel greater than ever.
