MSG files are individual email messages saved from Outlook. They can be imported back into Outlook using one of the following methods:

Method 1: Drag and Drop

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.

  2. Open the folder where you want to import the emails (e.g., Inbox or a custom folder).

  3. Open the folder containing your .MSG files in File Explorer.

  4. Select the MSG files you want to import.

  5. Drag them into the desired Outlook folder.

    • Outlook will import them as individual emails with all attachments intact.

Method 2: Using Open & Export (for one email at a time)

  1. Open Outlook and go to File Open & Export Open Outlook Data File.

  2. Browse to the MSG file.

    • Note: This works better with PST files, so for multiple MSG files, Method 1 is easier.

Method 3: Convert MSG to PST for Bulk Import

 

  1. Use a tool like ATS MSG to PST Converter (or similar utilities) to convert multiple MSG files into a single PST file.

  2. In Outlook, go to File Open & Export Open Outlook Data File and select the PST.

  3. All your MSG emails will now appear in Outlook.

The simplest method for importing MSG files into Outlook is to first convert them to a PST file. I suggest using ToolsBaer MSG to PST Conversion it lets you batch convert multiple MSG files into a single PST that Outlook can open. The tool is simple to use and supports conversion with full email properties preserved.

Quick steps:

  • Launch the tool after installing it.
  • Add your MSG files (one file or the complete folder).
  • Start the conversion after selecting PST as the output format.
  • Use File Open & Export Open Outlook Data File to open the generated PST in Outlook.
